2022 Mobile Laboratory Visit Learning Undefeated is pleased to offer week-long mobile laboratory visits for Baltimore City Public Schools, serving students in grades 6-8. All Baltimore City Public Schools that offer classes for grades 6-8 are eligible to request a visit. When requesting a visit, a school may request either the Explorer Lab or Drop Anywhere Lab program, depending on curriculum needs. Each visit will last one week with classes taking place Tuesday through Friday. Mondays will be used by the Learning Undefeated team for setup and lab prep, as well as additional professional development time for participating teachers.
Prior to each lab visit, one of Learning Undefeated’s instructors will provide participating teachers with training on curriculum and lab equipment used for in-classroom learning opportunities during the visit. Training is required for all teachers who wish to have their classes participate. Training sessions will be held monthly and information will be provided to each school in advance of their visit.
Available Dates Learning Undefeated has reserved mobile laboratory visits to City Schools during the 2021/22 school year. 2 additional weeks have been reserved towards the end of the school calendar to serve as make-up weeks should a visit need to be rescheduled for inclement weather or other reasons. Learning Undefeated’s Drop Anywhere Lab combines immersive learning space with flexible classroom resources. This custom-built shipping container provides an immersive learning environment onboard and accompanying in-classroom lessons tied to NGSS. Onboard the mobile lab, students play an interactive game, exploring chemical and physical changes like never before. The lab is designed to create a learning environment that gets kids excited about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) – right in the school parking lot.

While the Drop Anywhere Lab is visiting campus, resource carts will be deployed inside the classroom to provide paired activities in chemistry as well as life science, earth science, and physics. The program offers educators access to research-grade equipment and technology for their classrooms, one on one professional development, and in-class assistance to build teacher capacity and confidence with advanced equipment and techniques.
In Classroom Experience Specifications
Learning Undefeated’s Explorer Lab offers a unique STEM learning experience onboard a custom-built motor coach bus. The shared immersive learning experience combines movie-quality video, special effects, and hands-on educational gaming to introduce students to engineering and its wide array of applications.
Upon boarding the lab, students take a five-minute trip across the solar system, visiting each planet through a 360-video experience before landing on Mars. After touching down, students design their own rover on individual tablets and then complete a series of activities designed to help them think and problem solve like an engineer. Throughout the experience, students make engineering tradeoffs between power and functionality, reinforcing concepts of engineering design.

While the Explorer Lab is visiting campus, teachers will be provided materials and a lesson plan for paired classroom activities that offer students the chance to explore the engineering design process further. The classroom activities incorporate forces and motion concepts as students design, build, and test their own mini version of a rover while adhering to specific criteria and constraints.
